Scoring Changes to Point of Rally

On 1 April 2009 the primary and official scoring system for the game of squash changed to point a rally (“PAR”).

This change was adopted at the Annual General Meeting of the World Squash Federation held in Manchester, England in October 2008.

The official and primary scoring system for the game of singles is now as follows:

Play is PAR to 11 points.

At 10 all a player must win by two points.

The traditional hand in hand out scoring to 9 points and PAR to 15 points will be considered as alternative scoring methods. The rules of squash prior to this latest change in scoring have provided that point of rally scoring is an alternative method of scoring. The provision in the rules of alternative methods of scoring allow club administrators to adopt a different scoring system (often for social competition) if that was thought more appropriate.

This change will for the first time in a long period provide for a uniform scoring system at professional, national and club levels.
